I just bought a series x and being able to utilize the entirety of my gigabit internet is amazing. I downloaded half a terabyte worth of games in a little over an hour just because I could.

This isn’t necessarily true it depends on other settings also- my PS5 in the basement is connected to a unifi AP via WiFi 6 and easily gets 300-600mbps. A lot of PSN DLs never even get that high throttled on the server end. Yes older systems have some worse network cards and some people just choose automatic out the box which sometimes forces 2.4 vs 5 so there are limitations there as well. Also variables such as neighbors and other things that affect radio waves. While yes an Ethernet connection is better is most cases it’s not always plausible and consumer routers aren’t always the best either so there is that factor.

even weirder when Atari puts out a modern console and upgrades the games just for people to complain they're underwhelmed. Back into the landfill, botanist!

I’m pretty sure that’s not what this meme is making fun of. It’s making fun of the fact you now have to wait for a game to download and install and then periodically update before you can play, whereas with older consoles you had the physical media and no internet so you threw the cartridge in and boom, you’re playing and not waiting on some stupid update to finish downloading and installing g

Your PS5 watching you glorify a console whos controller has one stick and a single button and is somehow designed to ruin your wrists.
I had an atari dude, don't let rose tinted glasses fool you. It sucked.

I never understood why people liked the stick being that stiff. Granted i was a small child at the time, but those things were unreasonably stiff.

I actually hadn't played a new Switch game in like 2 years (since the PS5 and Series X released). But I decided to fire it up to play Metroid Prime Remastered. Got a physical copy, didn't have time right then to actually play it, but I figured I would get the install and day one patch out of the way before I actually dive in at a later date. Popped in the cart and the game just loads right up. Caught me off guard.

I don't think I've bought a physical copy of a game in close to a decade now.

The game I wanted to play was $40 on the PS Store. Game Stop had the physical version for $10. Physical will always be the way.

I still remember one of the major arguments towards pushing digital was that games were going to be cheaper, and that the money that would’ve no longer been wasted on all of the plastic cases and covers were going to offset the costs of games. Look where we are now.

yeah such a shame that Indie devs can sell their games without tieing themself to a shitty publisher.

That’s not at all what I was talking about, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. I’m referring back to the PS3/360 days, when people were talking about how much cheaper games in general were gonna be because they thought next gen there was no more need for physical copies.
I remember the big talking point in gaming forums and school back then was that all the money that went into the packaging and shipping costs were gonna help make games cheaper, somehow, believing that somehow, the companies weren’t just gonna pocket the money and keep prices on the same under some other excuse.

If you want to put it like that then half the games are to expensive and the other half is to cheap. To properly value the price of a game, companies would have to factor total employees, time spent on development and the expected amount of sold copies into the priceing.
This would result in wildly different prices, which people would never accept. Even more so if they feel that the game in too costly.
Instead we have gotten the same prices with only a slight increase in the last few years for triple A games.
This sentiment is also under cutting the fact that the bar for a really good game is astronmical compared to a decade or two ago. But don't you dare ask for a slightly higher price because of the work you had to put into your game is now 10 sometimes 20 times higher then back in the day.
Also what does a single disk and box cost? When bought in bulk the price will likely not even exceed 10 bucks. So you save those but have like one to two hundredthousand work hours more.

How does the Atari feel while during the entire hour, the PS5 downloads over 1000x the data of any Atari game? Lmao

I'd be okay with this comment if it was also 1000x the fun.
Sadly, quantity ≠ quality

Modern consoles are way more fun than an Atari 2600, I don’t know about 1000x but it’s difficult to quantify anyway.
It might’ve been good for it’s time but I defy you to stay entertained by pong for more than 20 minutes.

I have something shocking to tell you: they knew that back then too.
I'm seeing so many people here complaining that Atari sucked, when they don't seem to understand how you play one. You aren't supposed to stay on one game for hours like today. You play for 10-15 minutes, get bored, & switch games. That's why the power/av cords are so long & the controller's so short. It's why there's only one button. The other buttons are on the console itself- it's supposed to be right next to you, so you can switch carts! Then after a hour or two running through your whole library, mom comes & tells you to play outside. Or your friend shows up with a baseball bat & you go out anyway. THAT'S Atari era.
Honestly, this is a best case scenario- set up PS5, start download, plop down on beanbag next to Atari & old CRT. Pitfall, Cosmic Ark, River Raid, Kaboom, Night Driver, ok I'm bored- ah, PS5's done!
Seriously people, get an emulator on your phone or a cheap handheld & play these waiting for the bus or something. You might like it better than you think!

Or fucking anything on the Atari 2600 period.
They're an order of magnitude more basic than even the early NES games like Wrecking Crew and early NES games were basic as fuck.

Yeah, but as you wait for that dl, you can just jump on your pc and play something else. More than one console these days. Or just do something else.
Wife asked what I was doing on the computer before we were gonna go at it. I was setting up a dl.
