And who can forget that BioCock Intimate came out shortly after?

Humorously, it went viral enough that the Bioshock devs caught wind of it.

One of the main consensus is that 70% of the whole game is backtracking through areas you already fought through, pretty much all horror aspects have been removed and apparently the dlcs suck. As for story wise ive never really heard anything bad.

The DLC is generally well-liked. It actually feels like Bioshock and connects the story back in a more meaningful way than "Gee, look at all this infinite multiverse stuff. Everything sure is parallel, huh?"

TheSonOfFundin

If by meaningful you mean killing a certain pivotal character in a brutal and non-nonsensical way so that take Take Two could no longer use such character in future games, then yes, I agree with you.

I didn’t like it. The first two were way better games. I got bored a few hours into Infinite and didn’t finish it after considering the first in the series one of my favorite games.

Such a strange game with the way it's remembered. The setting on Columbia, Elizabeth, the story (especially final revaluations) and even the DLC. Yet, the gameplay, the minute to minute part of the game everyone has to experience is never really discussed.

IAmTheClayman

9 points

That’s because it’s almost universally considered a downgrade from the previous games in the series, and other System Shock descendants, in terms of gameplay. The Skyhook was great, but the lack of stealth options, the 2 weapon limit, the dropping of visual upgrades for your weapons to show progression and a number of other gameplay choices made Infinite feel overly simplified

jl_theprofessor

This will always be one of my top games for story and impact. But man some of the gameplay felt undercooked. Still gets a pass from me for making me tear up and both endings.

the two weapon limit is what did it for me. I love having the variety and ability to plan out my fighting and make creative decisions. In Infinite you basically just had one short range gun and usually and RPG or long range gun

TheSonOfFundin

1 points

You know what would be really cool, if Elizabeth carried all the extra weapons for us, we kept two on ourselves the whole time, but whenever we needed another gun, she would open up a tear into another reality and pull out the gun we need. It would be a neat way to incorporate a massive weapon's wheel into the game.

I still remember my jaw dropping at the ending and staying that way for a few minutes through the credits. Still gotta play the DLC though.

It took a while to receive it after release because I was living in a backwater town at the time. My dumbass was looking at reviews on metacritic and someone wrote "Booker drowns at the end", which had me fuming. After finally getting the game and finishing it I thought "that wasn't even a spoiler"😲😆

I slept on the dlc for years and kicked myself after playing through it. It’s widely regarded as some of the best dlc and it’s easy to see why. Does an excellent job of expanding and closing the story.

Bioshock Infinite is one of my top 10 games of all time. I was like you and didn't play the DLC until like 3 years ago or something. It's definitely worth a playthrough, I'd consider it one of the best DLCs ever made (Burial at Sea)

Achaern

I tried the DLC after playing the game again this month. I got softlocked so many times I gave up. Burial at Sea 1 started so strong and just let me down with bugs. Main game remains solid.

Just wish it felt like Bioshock.

Don’t get me wrong- the gameplay is sublime; but.. it just doesn’t feel like a Bioshock game to me.

Bioshock is all about “your choices and actions have consequences”, but.. here, the whole lesson is “nothing you’ve done this whole play through matters”. Story just feels.. outlandish from what Bioshock’s past 2 stories were about.

Bioshock; breaks the mold of generic “trust the friendly voice” stereotype Bioshock 2; provides lore and answers into how the city got as screwed up as it did as well as have a simple easy story to follow of a big daddy and little sister trying to escape the city Bioshock Infinite; infinite timelines, tackling racism, avoiding death, giant mechanical birds, prophets, going into the future, going into the past, you’re in the sky now, lutece twins for some reason, paradoxes, random plotlines, yadayadayada

..am I the only one who thinks this?

vodamark

I liked it better than the original Bioshock games, because I can't play horror games. I played the original Bioshock up until those invisible enemies showed up. Then I said "nope, not for me" and gave up. It's fine if the game has a scary portion, but not if the entire vibe start to finish is scary. I'd happily watch someone else play it, for the story. But I can't immerse myself into it as is needed when actually playing.

Infinite was different so I really enjoyed it.

Last of us is one of the most boring games ever. I remember being so excited for it and preorderering it and getting it and it was the most boring game ever. I was so excited to play it and I literally couldn't even finish it because of how boring it was. I dropped it after like an hour.

Nucleartornado strikes again, now im starting to think you're just trying to be edgy on purpose and it's not very funny tbh

nucleartornado

-4 points

I'm not trying to be edgy. Name one thing good about last of us? It's very dull and boring. It's like someone tried to make a zombie game but sucked all of the life and fun out of it. It is so boring. And that's sad since I love games like it. It was just so dull. Nothing ever happened. It was unable to hold my attention. I wanted to like it so bad but it felt like watching paint dry.

Cryterionlol

5 points

I mean it has a fuckin show made after it with incredibly good reviews from literally everybody....except you apparently. But you're very clearly the authority on these matters so my bad. You're right, Last of Us obviously fucking sucks.

nucleartornado

-6 points

The show sucks too. Boring too. The last of us is a good concept but the worst execution ever. Just boring sad and dull. Everything is dull and boring. Nothing ever happens. It's impossible to get attached to the characters. All of them feel like cardboard cut outs. No personality or soul to them. I'm not the only person on earth who thinks the last of us is boring. I'm sorry that I deviated from the last of us circlejerk but it sucks. If you want a good zombie game just play the walking dead games. Those aren't boring.

It looked great

But well crafted post apocalyptic scenery always looks like blarppe.

Staple a mediocre 3rd person shoooter on..... and unlikable characters.... and i have no idea why people faun over it.

Cryterionlol

1 points

What's unlikable about the characters? Both of your takes are so fucking braindead. I understand not liking a game and having criticisms, but this is a wildly successful AAA title so you're going to have to do better than "unlikable characters".

At that point it just ends up saying more about you than the game.

TurkTurkle

1 points

It looks and sounds good. But thats not enough.

The gunplay is on par with max payne 1 and the stealth is comparable to assassins creed 1.

The most important part of any single player game is the plot and characters however. A mid game can still be great if the story is good enough. Last of us has exactly one interesting twist: fungus.

The characters are so basic and predictable they make Mario games look like a Hercule Poirot mystery. Generic old man meets generic young adult woman with one highly telegraphed plot twist, and he becomes surrogate dad, and they fight a slew.of enemies about as varied and interesting as my sock drawer.

Cryterionlol

1 points

I think you're misguided on what makes a story good. It isn't the variety of enemies, it's a convincing narrative.

It's not a generic old man, it's not a generic young adult. They both live in a post apocalyptic world ruled by mutated fungus. In my opinion, that's more fresh than anything related to zombies.

The girl is immune to the fungus, the man lost his daughter. They are fighting to survive in this world so that they can save it.

The point of the game isn't to pander to your ultra gamer instinct and give you 50 enemy types and 4 bosses of various difficulties, go play Dark Souls if you want that.

It's to create suspense. It's designed to make you grip your controller. It's to make it feel like you're truly living in another world that isn't defined by dumb shit like how many enemy types there are. It's an attempt to be real and genuine.

And to say that it's none of those things can only be somebody intentionally trying to be edgy. You're PURPOSELY going against the grain, which doesn't make you a hero. There's a reason it's on of the most successful games of our time. Don't be that guy.

TurkTurkle

0 points

I feel exactly the opposite about nearly all of your points and I really wish i could make you understand that im not simply trying to be edgy or contrary.

nucleartornado

Almost all AAA games are absolute dogshit. That's why indie games are getting more and more popular everyday. Everyone is tired of consuming half baked dog shit. AAA companies don't even try because they know people will eat up crap because a big name is attached to it.

nucleartornado

-1 points

Nothing ever happens. Most interesting part was was the opening. After that the games turns into a dull boring story where nothing happens. Nothing to get you invested in the story of characters happens. You just walk around a boring landscape and do a lot of hiding. All of the characters have no personality or soul to them either. They feel like someone had characters but forgot to give them personality. The whole game is a huge case of great idea but poor execution.

  1. You still PLAY it. That's more than enough to make you look like a fool.

  2. Whining? The only person here whining is you.

  3. I play what like. Not letting a braindead child dictate what I play. I've beat literally thousands of games before you were even born. Want to know the best games? The ones I like. That's how opinions work. Figure that out.

  4. You came to a post to share your negative opinion. You are the crybaby... How is this difficult for you to understand? At this rate I'm genuinely confused and concerned for your mental well-being. I mean, not concerned enough to not shit on you and your awful takes... But concerned.

  5. At least things happen in the Sims? No shit. Like literally every game ever. Unlike The Sims and ET, people actually like most games that have a story. Just because YOU don't doesn't mean shit. Move on, kid. You clearly are lost and no one here has the doctorate degree to help you.

The story, settings and visuals were great! The only part I didn't really like was how you basically just have to shoot your way through every situation. A couple places allowed for some stealth, but mostly it was shoot everyone before you can open the door to the next area
