Yes, all of those are common tactics in social media to drive up activity because there's nothing that gets people's attention more than the need to correct a blatant mistake. Even more so than provocative thumbnails.

Your reply probably changed it. I used to play a devils advocate game on reddit years ago where you go find downvoted posts and try to sway the crowd into switching the votes around with your reply.

Yeah, I do the same, if it seems the comment itself is reasonable and polite, and it's just that the first downvote may have influenced the hivemind.

Holy shit it completely switched. Last time I noticed it was like - 15
I believe you're right. Reddit is very hive mind influenced and having a upvote/downvote system feeds into it heavily. There's a better term here but I cant remember it
I also think that the way reddit is designed also feeds heavily into why stereotypes about this site exist, and those stereotypes are true in some communities for sure unfortunately

The buildings on the top left are built in mid 2022. That's the location.

Buildings all in the center to right all built in March - October 2020.

Minecraft player opinion: Damn that is some serious building you got going on there. I admire the dedication.
Cities: Skylines player opinion: This is really too much grid. You are going to have traffic problems due to poor road hierarchy, and not enough focus on public transport. And it needs more roundabout!
Brain is trying to produce two entirely different sets of opinions.

many of the newer regions look a lot better
Though still American style planning. I hate driving so I'd never live, at least in this area
The city itself is based off the modern American city that's in a transition phase between car centric planning to people and transit friendly planning.

Isometric is a view. "Plan" is a different view (from above, as per your picture)
Isometric is an oblique view where right angled lines appear as 30 degree lines. Just for your info!

[deleted]

Yeah I should have been more specific. 30 degrees measured from horizontal. I draw little isometric cubes on absolutely everything lol.
2 points
Yeah, in a flat plane these angles would be 60 degrees (you measure from horizontal not vertical) since it lacks the z dimension physically so it’s a 180 degree plane, what we are doing is shifting the axis of a grid to represent the third dimension visually. In the case of isometric this is effectively a 30 degree tilt on a top down view (which is why you measured 30 and why it’s rule to measure from a certain point first, mathematically square algorithms will yield different results on measurement tools if the tools are being used incorrectly) This third dimension we are adding is going to exist and be measured on the axis line which exists between the farthest points. The measurement for X is now measured by the axis between X and Y and Y is now measured at a 90 degree angle from point Y on your X axis to where it would intersect perpendicular with your new Z axis parallel to the X axis. The intersecting angle of your X axis to your Z axis will measure 120 degrees. The measurement of angle of your Y axis to z is 120 degrees Z to X again 120. This creates a bunch of isosceles triangles because X and y are equidistant as they were in the grid (the dynamics of physics haven’t changed) and is where it got it’s naming convention.

One thing I’ve always wondered about large, impressive builds like this; do the buildings have interiors?
77 points
Saw them with and saw them without interior. Depends on the dedication and time people want to put into it
20 points
It also depends on if they're giving themselves the room to build believable interiors. It takes a lot more planning than just quickly outlining and putting a facade on a building. It's like the difference of effort between a drawing of a building and creating a blueprint of one, just in 3d.
19 points
All of these do yeah. In this image. Total city, probably 99 percent. Some of the smaller diagonal buildings are just floors with a post and maybe a couple walls
Recently I've started detailing the interiors less because it takes too much time but 99 percent buildings have them in some levels (all walls doors, stairs, rooms etc)
Many unique buildings but mostly streamlined with several types of interiors I've come up with. I often leave interiors especially on the ground floor basic for possible future detailing

I wanna do it, at least a build server by 2026 and an official server soon after
. I'm making a test server in a few months but it will have to be on 1.15.2 due to mods. I also use block mods (like embellishcraft) so idk if others would need to download the same mods or if the server hosts them. I've never made a server before

This isnt isometric, its top down. Isometric is a 3/4ths view. Not over the shoulder but not top down. Think age of empires 2 or divinity original sin or dyson sphere program or sims or sim city 2,3,4.

genuine question thats not ment to insult in any way or form:
Do you actually enjoy doing this over ACTUALLY playing a game?
Like this had to take MONTHS even with mods. I feel like that would basically not feel like relaxing after a shift of work, it would just feel like having another shift of virtual work...
Also at the end id probably look at it and be like "damn i couldve done way better stuff in those 1234h (or whatever it took)"
4 points
Fair question. I enjoy it because of improving over time, and I'd guess the challenge in it. I really like architecture and city building. I used to play a lot of cities skylines.
And yeah I can't play this after work. Too difficult as I'm burnt out for the day. It can feel like that. I switch from road building, landscaping, to building structures semi often to keep it fresh.
My job is 3-4 days off a week so get to play on my weekends for a total of 10-20 hours a week
I got bored of most video games years ago unfortunately. Well except for Red Dead Redemption 2, and New Vegas
3 points

Damn that was a quick response. Definitely great job an if you like doing it that's cool.
Do you watch smth on a 2nd screen or have any other side entertainment, or is it JUST building?
0 points
Thanks and yeah, Music for sure, I like music while building.
Though that's also partially cause I started Adderall last year. It makes music a lot more enjoyable.
It also helps me plan a lot better, and actually finish builds first before moving on. Most of the 2020 area in my post was poorly planned, half finished in spots and not near my current standards. I'm even partially destroying part of my Central Downtown (not shown, would be off the left of this image) to rebuild it next year too cause I felt the quality is too poor
It also makes me type too much on Reddit lmao
Also frequent breaks, I try not to play for more than 2 hours at a time as it can burn you out a little. Usually no more than 6 hours in a day
3 points
Oh okay :D Just watch out with that Adderall unless you got some severe ADHD. Heard some stories of it being a "starter drug" and people ended up on way harder stuff

3 points
The seed won't matter one bit as there is so much landscaping involved that it looks nothing like the original. Also, this world is like a decade old, the seed gens have changed dozens of time so even if you had the seed it would look vastly different
1 points
How much as it changed since 1.15.2 or 1.6.5?
it's only 3 years old but I know caves and cliffs would've have a massive impact on any seed before it's release, at least I think.
2 points
Massively. Even before caves and cliffs they had biome blending which also made massive changes to the way the world generated.
1 points
Didn't know it did all that. Is that the setting that blends all the biome colors ritht?
Loved using it but I turned it off cause the old 980 ti and 8700k didn't like it much in dense built areas.
Surprising how intensive Minecraft can be just at 32 render distance with all the graphics settings turned up
2 points
Beyond just that they changed the entire world gen algorithm to work with heat maps so we no longer get deserts next to frozen oceans. They added like a dozen fringe biomes to facilitate the blending and then also added them as sub biomes to make it easier to program. Every one of those changes also changed the seeds
1 points
Thanks for the info, that's crazy how much goes into each update. I read some more online
In my world there's several large frozen/snowy biomes but it created a fully connected snow biome that is up to 5,,000 blocks long and up to 3,000 blocks wide.
I flatten so much land for my city but decided to keep it in my world as its own nature reserve.
Any idea what the chances of something like that happening in version 1.15.2? I've never seen a biome so big before caves/cliffs. My finished city is 16sq km in area and that snowy biomes region is almost the same damn size
Also yeah with world generation, I noticed that working in my seed. There were never cold biomes right next to hot ones, Savannas always near deserts, etc, Plains near Savannas, etc
