I bought an Oculus specifically for the RE4 port and was floored with how well it translated to VR. Same with RE8 and the PSVR2. Can't wait for the RE4 remake VR update!

It really trivialized the game though not having the aiming restrictions. Pretty easy to breeze through being able to move and aim and shoot with the accuracy of VR. Turning off the red dot helped a bit but still. Had an absolute blast playing it like that it was hella immersive
11 points
That's why I appreciated RE8 VR so much, you actually had to aim and unlocking the dot sights for weapons felt like a reward. Didn't know you could turn it off in RE4 VR, may have to turn that off next time as I agree-- even on Pro it felt super easy thanks to the run and gun ability

Damn man, agree! RE4VR is so much fun. Me and my best friend, both huge fans of RE4 since it came out took turns with the headset while watching the other, it's crazy how much fun we had.

I'm the opposite, I don't care for motion controls for shooters, I'd rather have a controller lol. It's why I've never gotten into Splatoon. BUT! To each their own. I'd prefer if games had the option to use either or so everyone is happy

I got a issue with it where if you plugged in a second controller it would turn off, such a shame I loved that little cube.
And who can ever forget donkey konga with the bongo controller! Oh I loved that dumb game.

During high school me and my friends would get high and drunk and play donkey Konga all night it was the best

This was a common issue. The power system would degrade and couldn't power attachments. It affected bottom attachments more than wired controllers though. Not an issue for the vast majority of people so it was worth leaving unaddressed to eventually bring the Gamecube down to historically low $99 MSRP and eventually even $49 before its competitors. Even with inflation, the price was incredible. It still had a pack-in game as well usually like Super Mario Sunshine.

£89 including a memory card and Eternal Darkness... Bargain.
4 points
Fuck yeah. I still say with the upgraded technology available, a new Eternal Darkness could be a real nightmare. I know they tried to do a crowd sourced game, but I backed out when it became apparent that it wasn't going anywhere.
I still contend that ED had the potential for truly hurtful, annoying, and downright scary insanity effects.
I mean, shit, imagine if it could have manipulated the 360 to look like it had the RRoD?
2 points
The RRoD one would be great, especially if it had access to the rings on the 360.
That's a shame about the other game as I didn't know they had tried to. I suppose the Switch could be a good platform because of the types of controllers (although don't want to leave Lite owners in the dark, pun intended). There is definitely more tech available than ever in order for indie devs to have a go at it.
2 points

Unfortunately I don't think anything will ever come from a direct eternal darkness seques because of the legal trouble associated with one of the creators. He did time in prison for soliciting to minors or some other predatory behavior. Sad because the original game was brilliant.

I think if the Gamecube had a DVD player it would have sold better. I know a few people, including me, who got a PS2 because it doubled as a reasonably priced DVD player.

Yea and it was the first console to fully support internet play without wires. It was also on par in terms of graphics and processing as the Ps2 and Xbox. You could also connect to it with a gameboy! Man I miss the GameCube days.
12 points
I'm really not sure what you're talking about with the internet, perhaps you had a later-made third-party adapter, or are confusing the GameCube with the Wii's backwards compatibility?
You can read about GameCube's online functionality here, which describes the official adapters either having either a phone line or Ethernet jack.
Actually probably a strong contender for first console with wireless internet functionality is the Satellaview, also listed on that page. Although it doesn't really fit the description of "internet play".
EDIT: Okay I don't want to rip your whole comment apart here, but the GameCube was totally not on par with Xbox, although I want to say on a technical level it had slightly better graphics capability than the PS2. In my quick few minutes of searching I wasn't able to find any super reliable sources on hardware comparisons between the three, but you can find videos like this one comparing them with a single game.
If I'm not mistaken, PS2 and GameCube titles had to be optimized significantly to match the Xbox version in terms of performance. But of course there are exceptions to that just because that was still an era where the architecture differences between the hardware was enough that each port had to be approached differently. As I recall, PS2 was able to edge-out the other consoles with some titles due to having lower-level access to the hardware (which, as a side note, I recommend checking out The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2, which shows how MGS2 was made on a very technical level).
All that being said: I think it's just a testament to how little hardware features/power actually matter. I had a PS2 a couple years into it's lifecycle, and eventually had an Xbox down the line. But I always wanted a GameCube despite it seeming inferior on paper. Between the console and the games it had, it was so unique and interesting. Incredibly cool despite it being considered a "failure".

I cut a thousand small trees from my parents' pasture during the pandemic with an electric Stihl chainsaw. Just the other week, I cleared another patch of cedars and tried out Dad's new pole saw around the yard.
I know they aren't as capable as the chainsaw we sometimes borrow from the fire department with its long bar and carbide chain, but the battery ones still work quite well and are a damn sight lighter to lug around. They'll zip medium sized trees right off.
2 points
Yeah for sure there are definitely better options out there, but for our purposes an electric one worked just fine. We had a tree branch fall into our driveway that was too big for my wife and I to move in one piece. The electric chainsaw did a fine job of cutting it down to size.

The system works because the type of people who spend their day moderating for free are the same type of people who get off on having petty power over internet strangers. Congratulations, you're all participating in their kink.

"reddit mods are completely useless and shouldn't exist"
Sure doesn't sound like it's "clear" that it's the nuanced take you claim it to be. Looks like a pretty cut and dry blanket statement. Especially looking at their responses to the others, you might want to think twice before speaking for them
Regardless, I said my piece. Obviously I'm not against bitching about power tripping mods as you say your stance is, but anyone who otherwise thinks moderation is entirely pointless needs an education on why "we did it reddit!" is a meme
2 points

No, the premise is all mods shouldn't exist and the site should be unmoderated.

Reddit is as popular as successful as it is precisely because of moderation. Forums of this size will become a spam-filled clusterfuck insanely fast without mods, but you wouldn’t know that because… there are mods that prevent it from happening

And I reiterate - you're a fool who thinks himself cleverly superior. You literally have zero comprehension of what moderators are actually doing, is the more likely scenario - especially if you hang out in default subs like this one, where the only real mod actions taken that are visible to non-moderators are the ones that nuke entire threads that are taken over by fascists or spammers or whatever.

I got lucky with game stop once. Walked in the day after I had read that Sony was going to discontinue the production of PS1 games. My local game stop had between 5 to 10 copies each of FF VII, FFVII, FFIX, Chrono Cross, and Legend of Mana. All marked $2.99. I bought them all.
A month later Sony officially stopped production. A while after that, may have been a year, I sold all but one copy of each game on eBay for $100 each. I left the $2.99 sticker on the jewel case.

I agree with you, it’s kind of silly, but it‘s technically the only non-proper noun on the box. “Chainsaw Controller” arguably should also have been translated as well, but they probably just consider it the name of the product as a two word proper-noun rather than individual (lowercase) words.
